W. Herbert Senft II, PhD, President & CEO
With 25 years experience, Dr. Senft has proven expertise in growth oriented enterprises including successfully raising capital and profitably exiting companies. Dr. Senft has held executive positions with several successful companies and has served as executive in residence at a venture capital firm, Gazelle Tech Ventures. His broad experience also includes ISO certification and Total Quality Management.
As President & CEO of Symbios Medical Products, Dr. Senft provides strategic and tactical leadership, marshalling limited resources to drive revenue growth and achieve profitability. He is adept at helping companies achieve substantial growth and success in their markets.
Dr. Senft is trained as a research scientist and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Dave McCauley, VP of Operations
Dave has 25 years of Operations Management experience. The majority of that experience has been in start-ups and with companies experiencing rapid growth. He has been the president of three start-up companies, being involved from concept and patent applications through revenue. Trained in Biology and Chemistry as an undergrad and with an MBA in Operations Management, Dave has run several small to medium size businesses or operations including responsibility for sales forecasting, revenue, purchasing, material management, production scheduling, and manufacturing as well as New Product Development and major EA systems implementations. Dave has been at Symbios Medical since early 2009.
David Patterson, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing
David started his career as a Healthcare Management Consultant in Cost Management and Strategic Planning for Hospitals at Arthur Young and Company. This was followed with senior leadership positions at the former American Hospital Supply Corporation and Cigna Health Plan of Illinois.
After Cigna, David took a position as Senior Vice President at Surgical Laser Technologies, an exciting Wall Street performer. He led the Business Development and IPO of Surgical Laser Technologies that experienced a growth in sales to $100 million in three years moving from $9.90 to $32 per share in just 14 months.
David has lead new business start ups and has assisted organizations with both selling and acquiring additional companies in support of strategic plans for growth or reorganization. Recently David was successful in assisting a major International Medical Technology Company with two new business startups in utilizing their consumer electronic platform and a second business delivering workflow improvement to the health system delivery market place.
David earned his BS in Finance from Purdue University. In addition to his consulting duties, David was a founding member of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) and a director of the Corporate Councils and Roundtable program of the NPSF.
Tom Cavanagh, Vice President, Quality and Regulatory Affairs
As a 25 year veteran of Roche Diagnostics, Mr. Cavanagh successfully served in a broad array of roles, including Research, Research Management, Custom Product Development and Manufacture, Product Management, Business Development, Business Process Improvement, New Business Ventures, Training, and Quality Systems. Mr. Cavanagh is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and holds certifications from the American Society for Quality (CMQ/OE; Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence), Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAC; Regulatory Affairs Certification), and Project Management Institute (PMP; Project Management Professional). A Medical Technologist by undergraduate training (BS, MT), Mr. Cavanagh enjoys 10 years of bench experience in clinical and research laboratories.
Geoff Roper, Vice President of Research and Development
From 2008 through 2009 Mr. Roper was Vice President of Operations at Symbios Medical. He oversaw the R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing and Quality functions in this rapidly growing, medical device company. During this start-up phase, Mr. Roper focused on achieving three corporate objectives – high volume manufacturing, rigorous product development and predictable NPI (New Product Introduction) and high quality. His central tactical focus was on the design and implementation of a product design and manufacturing methodology and infrastructure that ensures 21 CFR 820.40 document control, product quality and QSR/cGMP compliance.
Mr. Roper has over 34 years of start-up and turnaround experience in the high tech industry. His contributions have been evenly split between the creative and operating sides of a number of fast-paced, rapid-growth companies.
Mr. Roper was responsible for Operations and Engineering Services at Radiant Systems, Inc. and Nellcor/Lenexa, KS. Radiant Systems, Inc., a provider of hospital monitoring and networking equipment that was sold to Nellcor, Inc., becoming a wholly held subsidiary and the principal electronic design location for the corporation and its pulse oximetry products. Mr. Roper designed and oversaw construction of a unique, 65,000 sq. ft. engineering facility that resulted in measured improvements in personal creativity and productivity as well as team performance. During this period, Nellcor realized exponential growth in the medical monitoring marketplace and reached over $200,000,000/year in sales.
